Trish Evans
Trish Evans is an oil painter based in Meanjin/Brisbane whose landscapes explore the intersection of memory, place, and emotion through a nuanced balance of abstraction and representation. Drawing inspiration from environments she has personally hiked, paddled, or quietly inhabited, Evans creates works that invite viewers to reconnect with their own sense of belonging and lived experience of landscape.
Her expanding body of work, Roaming Landscapes, includes Ooraminna Campsite and Stewarts Bay Calm, paintings that reflect moments of immersion within the natural world. Rather than offering literal depictions, Evans distils atmosphere and memory — allowing land, light, and stillness to carry emotional weight.
Her process begins in situ, with charcoal and pastel drawings made directly from the landscape, supported by photographic references to refine composition and palette. While she produces smaller studies, Evans prefers working at larger scale when resolving a painting. She finds the richness and slowness of oil paint integral to conveying depth, colour, and the quiet tempo of place.
Evans studied at the South Australian School of Art and San Jose State University in California, USA. Although she maintained her artistic interests throughout her professional career, her dedicated studio practice has re-emerged in recent years. New to exhibiting, she held a successful solo exhibition in Brisbane in 2025, has participated in a collective exhibition in Northern NSW, and has been a finalist in numerous art prizes across NSW and South East Queensland. Her work is held in a growing number of private collections.
Ooraminna Campsite and Stewarts Bay Calm are currently on display at The Brisbane Gallery as part of ESCAPE.
