Shavarnia Williams
Born and raised in the landscapes of New Zealand, I was drawn early to visual expression, using mark-making to echo the natural world around me. In the early 1990s, I studied Fine Arts at the National Art School in Sydney, where I refined my practice and deepened my understanding of contemporary art.
My work is fluid and gestural, defined by bold movement, layered forms, and luminous colour. Each canvas becomes an energetic field where spontaneity meets intention, building visual maps of both landscape and emotion.
Inspired by time spent immersed in nature across Australia and overseas, I work with washes, glazes, etching, printing, and expressive brushwork to create compositions that feel both map-like and abstract. My paintings explore the space between the seen and the felt — translating lived experience into dynamic, immersive visual form.
