Lucinda Leveille

Lucinda Leveille is a Queensland-based landscape painter whose atmospheric oil paintings explore stillness, distance, and the emotional resonance of place. Working primarily in oil on canvas, Leveille creates expansive compositions that focus on horizon, weather, and light — landscapes that feel both grounded and psychological.

Her practice is less concerned with literal representation and more attuned to mood and memory. Through subtle tonal shifts, softened edges, and layered glazing, she builds quiet spaces that invite contemplation. The land in her work becomes a vessel for reflection — open, spacious, and deeply internal.

In The Softest Warning and What the Rain Left Behind, Leveille captures the moment after change — when atmosphere lingers and the landscape holds the residue of passing weather. There is tension within restraint: skies stretch wide, terrain settles into calm, and the viewer is invited to sit within that pause.

In The Long Quiet, scale amplifies stillness. The extended horizon and softened transitions evoke solitude without isolation — a contemplative expanse that feels immersive rather than distant.

Leveille’s paintings balance minimal composition with emotional depth. Through disciplined restraint and sensitivity to light, she creates landscapes that offer retreat — spaces where the external environment mirrors internal calm.

The Softest Warning, What the Rain Left Behind, and The Long Quiet are currently on display at The Brisbane Gallery as part of ESCAPE.
