Connecting with Women Artists in Papua New Guinea

Recently, Zeena from The Brisbane Gallery travelled to Papua New Guinea to raise awareness of The Meri Collective — our initiative dedicated to empowering and showcasing the incredible creative talent of PNG women.

During her visit, Zeena attended the vibrant Arts Market at the Port Moresby Theatre, where she met an inspiring community of women artists whose creativity, courage, and cultural expression are at the heart of PNG’s artistic landscape. From intricate hand-woven pieces and traditional motifs to bold contemporary works, each artist shared stories of heritage, resilience, and hope through her craft.

This trip marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for The Meri Collective. Zeena’s journey wasn’t just about discovering artwork — it was about connection, collaboration, and creating opportunities for these women to share their voices with the world.

We can’t wait to introduce you to the amazing women Zeena met — and to showcase their art and stories as part of The Meri Collective’s growing platform for cross-cultural creativity.

Stay tuned for upcoming artist profiles, exhibitions, and stories that celebrate the spirit and strength of PNG women through art.
